Acrobats

We are going to get started here with Mt.Joy “Acrobats.” This is a 5 piece band out of Los Angeles with roots in Philadelphia. They have a alt rock/folky sound that I can’t get enough of lately.

The band debuted in 2016 with their single “astrovan” this song put them on the map. Less than 2 years after the release of “astrovan” they toured with “The Head and The Heart” played on Conan and dropped a full length self titled album containing 13 songs. Oh and did I mention frontman Matt Quinn was a couple months into law school when the single started accumulating hundreds of thousand of plays on Spotify. Quinn realized he had to drop out of school and pursue music. They were just messing around with music as a side hobby. They uploaded “astrovan” in September 2016.

Let’s fast forward to 2020 Mt.Joy is touring the USA with the Lumineers as the opening act. (I believe this tour has been cancelled but I couldn’t find info online) On March 17, 2020 Mt. Joy released their new 5 song EP “Acrobats.” I have been listening to this small collection of songs daily since the release. “Strangers” is the single on this album and your new favourite song. They’re folky music coupled with Quinn’s powerful voice makes for an enjoyable listen.

Quinn doesn’t want to turn everyone onto indie folk but wants to write good music no matter what genre people like. This is a band that doesn’t stop working they have their goals clear in mind and they make it happen.

Thank you Mt.Joy and keep up the good work.
