Wolf Parade is a Canadian band from Montreal formed in 2003. The band released 3 full length albums including their debut album “Apologies to the Queen Mary” in 2005 produced by Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock. (Apologies to the queen Mary is my favourite album of all time) Before taking a 5 year break in 2011. They returned in 2016 releasing a self titled EP and a fourth studio album “cry, cry, cry” in October 2017.
On February 4, 2019 Dante DeCaro (Hot Hot Heat member) left Wolf Parade. Leaving them to continue touring and to record “Thin Mind” as a 3 piece band for the first time in over a decade. Losing DeCaro did not minimize Wolf Parades sound. “Thin Mind” is the album they should have released right after “Apologies to the queen Mary.” If you have kept up with Wolf Parade all these years you know what I’m talking about. They sound more sure of themselves in this album than they have since 2005. “Thin Mind” sounds less like synth pop and more like a rock record. The opening track is entitled “Under Glass.” Upon first hearing that track you can hear the difference in their sound. The singles on this album are “Forest Green” and “Against the Day.”
“Thin Mind” has mere reminders of what Wolf Parade once was. It is still a good album it is just different. I really believe comparing anything to “Apologies To the Queen Mary” isn’t fair. That album was a frontier in indie music and paved the way for many bands and side projects to follow. Wolf Parade has one of the most unique voices in indie music along with their clean but rockin guitars it isn’t something you can copy. I do still recommend “Thin Mind.” If you’re an existing fan or looking for something different to listen to.
Thank you.
